Book review: My husband's favorite kid book (for now)

Each night, my husband reads books to the kids, before they go to sleep. That used to be my job and then the kids decided it was daddy's turn.

the pear in the pear treeI asked my husband, "What is your favorite book to read to them right now?"

He said, "The Pear in the Pear Tree."

My mom gave this book to my children as a gift. It's written by Pamela Allen and published by the Penguin Group (Australia).

Storyline:

John and Jane go out walking. They find a juicy pear and try with all their might to get it. They engage in various funny antics, trying to get that pear. They land in the water and more. In the end, they share the pear.

I realized after reading the story that it depicts a boy and girl - like our daughter and son. They often kindly share with one another (when they are not arguing). I asked my husband if this is why he loves it. He said, "It's an action book. It rhymes and the story builds, page by page. It's clever and fun. I love the way it ends, too, with the kids sharing the pear. It's fun to read out loud and has a nice rhythmic pattern."

Personally, I also like the fact that the author is an Aussie, like me! I read through the book a few times, myself, and I agree - it's a keeper.
